Mattera: Markowitz's Endorsement of Bloomberg "final betrayal" of Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY October 17, 2005 Reacting to current Brooklyn Borough
President Marty Markowitz's endorsement of Mayor Bloomberg, Green Party candidate
Gloria Mattera called Markowitz "a traitor to Brooklyn".
"Marty Markowitz's decision to back Bloomberg for mayor is unconscionable.
Mayor Bloomberg has sold our city out to the highest corporate bidders and
accepts President George W. Bush's Republican agenda. Now Markowitz is supporting
him."
"When the Green Party talks about 'Republicrats' we can forever point to a picture
of Marty Markowitz as the shining example," she continued. "His decision to stand
with Mike Bloomberg means he stands against our neighborhoods, our communities,
our jobs and our homes. This is his final betrayal of Brooklyn."
"My campaign is now inarguably alone in articulating a progressive agenda for the
Borough President's race," she concluded.
Markowitz, a Democrat, announced his decision to endorse the Republican candidate
for New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, today at a press conference in
Brooklyn.
Markowitz's support for the tax-subsidized Ratner Atlantic Yards proposal has been
the major point of contention for the Mattera Campaign.
Mattera lives in Brooklyn with her husband and children. She is a health care
provider in the New York City public hospitals.
